The Company

HOLOBLOC Inc. began operation as a for-profit corporation in the state of Ohio, USA in April 2005. It was founded and is headed by by Dr. James H. Christensen, an internationally recognized expert with 39 years of academic and industrial experience in leading the development of international standards, technology and training in the domain of industrial automation and control.

Software

HOLOBLOC Inc. maintains and improves the publicly available, IEC 61499-compliant FBDK (Function Block Development Kit) technology. This software toolkit provides the basis for a comprehensive solution to the complex challenges faced by developers and maintainers of the next generation of intelligent, distributed control and automation devices, machines and systems.

To speed up and simplify the design process, Holobloc Inc maintains a number of design patterns and associated engineering methodologies for use with the FBDK.

Training and Consultation

HOLOBLOC Inc. provides customized training, expertise and technology for the next generation of intelligent, distributed automation and control based on the IEC 61499 standard. Training and consulting services may be provided by Dr. James Christensen or by partners of Holobloc, Inc at the client's option.

• Executive Briefing: A 90-minute presentation on the background, status and potential business impacts of the IEC 61499 standard and technology, followed by a two-hour interactive session to develop a preliminary corporate strategy for using the technology.
  
• Introduction to IEC 61499 Technology: A two-day, hands-on training session for engineers, system architects and integrators. By the end of this session, participants will be able to build simple distributed applications using the FBDK technology.
  
• Design Patterns for IEC 61499: A two-day, follow-on session for participants who have completed the introductory session. By the end of this session, participants will be able to design and implement more complex distributed applications, including graphical user interfaces (GUIs) and simulations of the controlled equipment. If IEC 61499-compliant devices are available, prototype implementations of the actual distributed systems may also be constructed in an additional one-day session.
